Teachers often wrestle with two big questions: How do students learn, and how can they do it better in a constantly evolving context? But now teachers have another big question: “How to teach in the situation of distance learning?” And one more: “Does the pandemic now, will change the teaching methods in after-pandemic times?”
Our practical, hands-on course is for educational specialists, who want to learn how to work effectively with students during the school closures and in post-pandemic times. To learn more about the different types of online distance learning and how to integrate blended learning in the post-COVID-19 eras. Depending on the readiness of digital devices and internet connectivity at their schools, teachers should be continuously supported to integrate some of the effective practices of distance learning into blended learning models as schools reopen.

Target group:

  • Teachers of primary schools, secondary schools and vocational schools.
  • Adult education teachers.
  • Teachers of special needs.
  • Teacher trainers.
  • Career officers, educational guides and counsellors.
  • Headmasters/principals/managers of schools and organizations offering adult education or vocational education.

Each participant needs to bring his own tablet and/or laptop. We don’t provide computers or tablets.

Daily Programme:

The standard programme comprises 7 days, but there is also an option for 5 days course. The first day is dedicated to getting to know each other and the structure of the developed Teachers’ Toolkit, to introduction into non-formal education teaching approaches and cultural activities. The last day is about follow up and individual consultations – instructions how to implement the suggested trainings with students, how to seek and receive support from mentors. Participants are expected to arrive one day before the start of the course and leave one day after the end. In case there is no lockdown and it is safe for both sides, the host organization could organize:
- visits to a local school who have already used the Teachers’ Toolkit “Non formal in the classroom” and also can present good practices of distance work with students and parents;
- cultural programs.
Course venues: Manavgat-Antalya (Turkey), Valletta (Malta) and Sofia (Bulgaria)

Programme Summary:

According to the UNESCO-UNICEF-World Bank Survey on National Education Responses to COVID-19 School Closures, multiple solutions have been used to ensure that learning can continue offsite during the pandemic, including online, TV-based, radio-based, and print-based learning. The first round of data collection from 122 countries has revealed that, the selections of distance learning solutions vary according to region and income level. The main topics of our structured course are targeting on the online distance learning. Online distance learning can be done at any time or place, provided learners have access to the internet. It can be divided into three main categories: platform-based learning, teacher-directed live streaming, and video-based flipped learning.
By the end of the course participants will have a fundamental understanding of home-based distance learning and the main distance learning models. They will know how the technology can be integrated into education in numerous ways. It is therefore important for teachers to reflect on their practices and summarize what worked and did not work. In the post-COVID-19 era, teachers will know how to utilize the national platforms, conduct synchronous online lessons, organize video-based flipped learning, and use TV and radio programmes for learning. Such knowledge will equip teachers to address challenges in new ways.
The participants will learn about the digital resources and AI (Artificial Intelligence) for distance learning. The participants will gain not only theoretical knowledge about digital tools but also will learn how to create interactive learning resources suitable for students. The participants will gain practical knowledge on how to adapt the lessons conducted for class-based teaching to the lessons for distance learning teaching.

Main topics of this course:

  • Distance learning. Special contexts of home-based distance learning under COVID-19 school closures.
  • Online distance learning – Online platform-based teaching and learning. Online learning platforms hosting curriculum-aligned content – MS Teams, Google Classroom, Edmodo.
  • Online distance learning – Teacher-directed live-streaming lessons. Design and delivery of teacher-directed live-streaming lessons.
  • Online distance learning - Asynchronous video-based flipped learning. Designing and delivering video-based lessons. Tools and resources to support teachers to create video lessons.
  • Designing and conducting formative assessment for online distance learning. Online tools for e-Assessment.
  • Facilitating home-based learning for pre-primary education.
  • Planning the use of blended learning in post-pandemic times. The idea of blended learning is that students can benefit from a digital environment while being part of a traditional school.
  • How to work with other teachers and parents under COVID-19 school closures. Online tools – MS Teams, Google Classroom, Edmodo, ZOOM, social media tools.
  • How eTwinning projects can help teachers to make the distance learning more efficient.

Methodologyof the Course :

The course is designed as an interactive process. The format of the course is didactic, experiential, and interactive along with discussions, individual and team exercises. The participants will also see examples of online distance learning (a platform-based). They will work on individual and team exercises three online platforms: MS Teams, Google Classroom and Edmodo. One of the delivery method during the course is simulation of real lessons with students. Participants will, most of the time, step in the shoes of their students practicing the online distance learning. This will provide trainees with first-hand experience how to deliver the trainings to students after attending the course. The simulations will be accompanied by discussions on different scenarios of delivering the training sessions suggested by the participants.
Sharing: Participants share experiences and expertise on the topic, learn from each other.
Collaborative workshops: Working in groups on a learing scenario, lesson plan, eTests or other learning resource to be used in the own school.
The training team is multinational - experienced trainers from Bulgaria and Turkey, who have participated in the design of the Teachers’ Toolkit and previous teacher training sessions within Erasmus+ KA2 projects.
